October updates – Sustainability Focus, Moons Green Charcuterie, Local Artisan Hero

Time for a round-up of what’s been happening in the store lately because it’s been a busy old time at The Crieff Food Co!

Sustainability focus

Sustainability is close to our heart so we’ve started canning our plastic still and sparkling water – plus we’re also now only using paper and jute bags.

Moons Green Charcuterie

We’re delighted to welcome Moons Green Charcuterie to our store! Founded by British Charcuterie pioneers John Doig and Ian Jones, these two have been obsessing about the craft they have been pursuing for almost ten years.

This is the team that inspired many local classics from the young British charcuterie movement – including their now ubiquitous and utterly delicious Beer Sticks.

With more than 20 different saucissons using British ingredients at every opportunity, their air-dried meats are all melt-in-the-mouth local versions of European classics.

Situated bang in the middle of some of the best livestock farms in the country, they source free-range meat of unbeatable quality and their motto is ‘we have a cure for people who are fed up with factory food.’

October’s Local Artisan Hero

October’s Local Artisan Hero is Paul Newman, owner of Errichal House and Thyme Restaurant, that’s just up the road on the outskirts of Aberfeldy.

Paul lived and worked in South Africa for several years and it was this experience that spurred him on to produce his own Biltong.

Biltong is similar to jerky, but it is cured/marinated before the drying process to impart a greater depth of flavour and we stock Buffalo Biltong, and Buffalo Chilli Biltong made using meat from The Buffalo Farm in Fife.

Using only natural seasonings, the result is a delicious, high-protein snack – great for packing in your backpack if you are spending a day in the hills, or for after a workout at the gym, or even served as nibbles with drinks.

Our butchery is back

And finally, our butchery counter is back! We would like to welcome Colin Nicol, award-winning traditional butcher to The Crieff Food Co. Master butcher Colin has a wealth of experience and currently has two other shops in Perth and Bannockburn.
